The site I recommend is hotwire.
The peculiarity of the offer is that the user does not know the name of the hotel which accommodated, until such time as the perfect payment.
This small inconvenience is due to the fact that the hotels are high class (4 / 5 stars) and do not like to advertise the sale of some of the rooms below.

Two issues, in particular, I do prefer this site to many others in the network:
- booking through you can book accommodation without spending even one euro!
The reservation you make with your credit card, but usually you must pay on site (unless otherwise specified).
- through booking you can cancel your reservation until 24 hours before departure, without there being any penalty to be paid (unless otherwise specified). This allows to make booking hotels in more parallel and then only at the end as free rooms, thus ensuring the perfect place!

2) The second site I recommend is hotels .
Broadly has the same features as above, but in my opinion is not very "low cost", although sometimes these very good bids.

Both portals, of course, have to goni hotel, a rating given by user reviews, absolutely be taken into consideration when making a choice!

If you're looking for a hostel

The site will advice is Hostelworld .
As stated in the presentation, this portal is 25,000 hostels in 180 countries, has very good reviews.
In this case the cancellation is not completely freeware, but requires that the site retains 10% of the total amount as deposit, and a $ 2 booking fee, unless you choose to purchase travel insurance in which case the cancellation is free.
